Vector Surveillance Technician

Under the supervision of the Environmental Health Director, conducts surveillance activities including; mosquito trapping and tick dragging, identifying which mosquito and tick species are present; setting and maintaining bait traps; assisting with mosquito abatement measures if needed. Additional activities include, conducting community-based education activities for mosquito-borne and tick-borne diseases, including: developing and manning displays, creating power points, writing news releases and public service announcements,

developing educational materials, using social media, etc.

Employment Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma required. Some college coursework in the sciences preferred.

Experience & Required Skills:

Basic knowledge and interest in vector and vector borne diseases.

  • Ability to critically assess situations and solve problems, and to work effectively within deadlines.
  • Skill in assembling and analyzing data and preparing comprehensive and accurate reports
  • Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with others.

Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications, software programs utilized by the Community Health Agency, and the ability to learn new software programs applicable to the position.

  • Special Requirement: Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation, as work-related travel will be required and a cell phone.
  • Salary and Fringe Benefits:This is a contractual position in Branch County, 30 hours per week, hourly rate of $14 per hour, with no benefits. Transportation reimbursement at the Agency’s Current rate $.67/mile. (IRS rate) is also included. The contract will run from May 13, 2024 – August 29th, 2024. The length of the contract can be flexible to accommodate the school schedule of students. Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a ½ hour unpaid lunch, Monday through Thursday.
