On May 19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated Interim Infection Prevention and Control Guidance for Dental Settings During the COVID-19 Response. This interim CDC guidance provides details for dental health care personnel as they begin to resume non-emergency care for patients. Considerations for prioritizing the most critical dental services and providing care in a way that minimizes harm to patients from delaying care and harm to personnel from potential exposure to COVID-19 will be discussed. Panelists will include Dr. Pamela Porembski, director of the ADA’s Center for Dental Practice, and OSAP experts Kathy Eklund and Eve Cuny. Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Describe patient and personnel screening for COVID-19.
- Explain dental facility and equipment considerations as dental practices resume non-emergency care.
- Review respiratory protection measures for dental personnel.
