Meeting Dates:
Tuesday, January 31, 2023
Meeting Time and Location:

11am-12pm

Note:

When someone experiences a mental health emergency, our response can provide a pathway to treatment or exacerbate their challenges. Michigan has made progress in helping people in crisis access integrated, high-quality care—and we have much further to go.

Join us for a webinar to hear from key leaders on the forefront of this work, including a special welcome and opportunity for Q&A with Krista Hausermann and Steven Mays, experts in crisis and justice systems from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

We’ll talk about how state and local agencies, providers, and communities are partnering on whole system responses, ensuring those in need have someone to call, someone to respond, and somewhere to go. Topics will include:

  • 988, 911, and other emergency help lines
  • Emerging and expanding models such as mobile crisis units, law enforcement co-response, and crisis centers
  • Improving access to care through psychiatric inpatient alternatives, coordination with jails, and more
  • Sustainable funding and reimbursement

Our expert speakers are:

  • Sheryl Kubiak, Dean of Wayne State University School of Social Work and Founding Director of the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice
  • Leonard Swanson, Crisis Response and Stabilization Manager at Wayne State University School of Social Work and Center for Behavioral Health and Justice
  • Lynda Zeller, behavioral health expert for the Health Fund and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
