The Michigan PrEP Series: Sex Work and PrEP, will focus on PrEP access and special considerations for people who engage in sex work. Sex work is the oldest form of trade in the world that requires a specific skill set. Sex workers face unique challenges in the workplace that require specialty care from medical providers, social workers, and community organizations. This training will highlight health risks that sex workers face and examine how these are compounded by the stigmatization and criminalization of sex work. Challenges related to healthcare access, insurance coverage, socioeconomic status will be discussed with a focus on HIV prevention activities and PrEP usage. Through this training, participants will receive up-to-date education on the perspective of appropriate language, relevant needs, and trauma informed care. By attending this training series, participants will better understand how stigma, fear, and other barriers contribute to disparities for sex workers and learn strategies to help break down these barriers to empower people who engage in sex work.
Intended Audience: All interested persons are welcome to apply. HIV Testers, PrEP Navigators, Providers, Social Workers, Nurses, and Community Health Workers are encouraged to attend.
