Public Health Services Registered Nurse

Under the supervision of the Clinic Supervisor, provides professional public health nursing care to clients in the tri-county area by staffing a mobile clinic unit as well as providing in office services to the community. At times the Public Heath RN be required to drive the mobile clinic unit and provide remote clinic services to vulnerable populations. Health department services include Immunizations, WIC, Sexually Transmitted Disease Control, Tuberculosis Control and comprehensive Communicable Disease surveillance and prevention as well as working the LEAD screening program. Nursing care includes assessment, interpretation of results, administering and calling in medication from standing orders, counseling and teaching, referral for other services and evaluation of nursing care. May act as team leader for clerk/technicians. Demonstrates clear communication and integrity in support of the CHA mission, philosophy, and quality of client interventions. Promotes a model of ethical standards within the Agency and community. Developing a population-oriented view of community health is vital to appropriate public health nursing.

The Public Health RN will work with local businesses and partners to set clinic dates/times for the mobile clinic, and keep the mobile unit out in the community with clinics a minimum of 3 days per week.

Employment Qualifications:

Education: Current Michigan Registered Nurse license is required. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.

Experience & Required Skills:

· Two to more years of progressively more responsible experience in public health nursing.

· Ability to critically assess situations and solve problems, and to work effectively under stress, within deadlines, changes in work priorities, and in emergency situations.

· Ability and training in serving children with special health care needs.

· Ability to respond to emergencies or service needs on a 24-hour basis.

· Skill in in providing nursing procedures and services to a variety of clients.

· Considerable knowledge of immunizations and schedules, communicable diseases, reproductive health issues, and administering various health tests.

· Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications, software programs utilized by the Community Health Agency, applicable medical devices, and the ability to learn new software programs applicable to the position.

Special Requirement: Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation, as work-related travel will be required.

Salary and Fringe Benefits:
