The Health Officer serves under the direction of the Board of Health. Serves as the chief administrative officer providing leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of the department. Responsible for implementing agency policies and programs relating to public health and serves as a liaison between the agency and the public. 

Qualifications for this position include thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of public health, thorough working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations governing the delivery and financing of public health services, and in-depth experience and knowledge in accreditation, strategic planning, and community health assessment.  Key to success in this position is the ability to interact with elected officials, community partners and employees as well as a strong business background with excellent public speaking skills.

The person filling this position must meet the specific requirements for the position of Health Officer defined by rules adopted by the State of Michigan in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code and must possess one of the following requirements:  an M.P.H. or M.S.P.H. degree and 3 years of full-time public health administrative experience; a related graduate degree and 5 years of full-time public health administrative experience; or a bachelor’s degree and 8 years of full-time public health experience, 5 years of which shall have been in the administration of a broad range of public health programs. The CMDHD Board of Health anticipates the successful candidate will assume the position on or before 8/3/2026.
